A Study on Middle Aged Woman¢¥s Healthcare Based on A Roy¢¥s Adaptation Theory


Abstract
A nursing science is focusing more and more on a quality of life. A concern on the quality of life related to a lifecycle. Especially middlescerit woman influences on a family and society as well as a person. Because middle years woman takes a important role on the family.
And then, the purpose of this study is to investigate middle aged woman¢¥s healthcare based on a Roy¢¥s adaptation theory by reviewing the literature.
The Roy adaptation theory presents a framework for the professional practice of nursing. A person is viewed as a bio-psycho-social being, in constant interaction with changing environment.
In this study, the stimulus is classified as follows
1. focal stimulus is a change of middle aged woman¢¥s health.
2. contextual stimulus is a elevated concern of quality of life.
3. residual stimulus is a negative attitude of doctors and nurses.
A person is conceptualized as having four modes of adaptation : physiological need, self-concept, role function, interdependence relations.
This study reveals considerable change of mid stage woman by four mode of adaptation.
In the perspective of physiological need, it occurs to several physical changes as vasomotor vaginitis, osteoporosis, coronary atherosclerosis and menopause. Another area of change that the middle aged woman commonly confronts is a change in self-concept as decreased self-esteem and self image. On a role of function, middle aged woman experiences a loss of role. On a interdependence relations, social networks are changing as children leave home, parents and friends become ill or die and old aged parents need a full care.
What can we do? That is middle aged woman¢¥s nursing intervention.
First of all, nurses have a responsibility to develop program that focus on primary health care related to cope with the changes that occur during the middle aged woman.
Second, we need to develop a body of knowledge for the middle aged woman. So that students will be better prepared to consider and help middle aged woman with these changes than we were.
Finally, we need to middlescent woman healthcare specialist accumulated a repertorie of positive, effective, alternative ways of copying with the normal changes of the middle aged woman.
